Texans sign 2 wide receivers after Jayden Higgins’ ACL injury

The Houston Texans are intent on playing dominant football this season. Not only do they have a goal of winning the AFC South title, they want to represent the AFC and go to their first Super Bowl in team history.

The Texans believe they have the experience and the talent to get to the top of the conference, and one of their strengths is the talent in their passing game. They are counting on quarterback C.J. Stroud having an excellent year and making the kind of key throws at the most crucial moments that allow the Texans to win games in the fourth quarter.

The Texans are under the strong impression that they have the depth at the WR spot with Nico Collins and Jaylin Noel to get the job done, but they took a serious blow during the team’s combined practice session with the Las Vegas Raiders. Jayden Higgins, the third WR in the Texans’ offense suffered a torn ACL in Tuesday’s practice that will sideline him throughout the season.

As a result of that injury, the Texans have signed WRs Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones to battle for a receiving position — possibly a starting slot — in the finals 10 days of training camp. Shepard and Jones both were impressive in Friday workouts and that merited contract offers by the team.

Higgins was expected to be a key part of the Texans attack this season. He had 41 catches for 525 yards and 6 touchdowns last year. He regularly used his size, strength and big body to wall off defenders and make crucial receptions.
