Mariners’ JP Crawford scratched on Wednesday due to injury concern
The Seattle Mariners are finishing their three-game series with the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. JP Crawford played in the first two games of the series. Crawford left the game on Sunday agaisnt the San Diego Padres after being hit by a pitch in the right tricep.
Now the tricep may be an issue, as Crawford will be sitting on Wednesday, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times.
“And JP Crawford was scratched due to a sore triceps. It was bothering him when he tried to play catch,” Divish posted on X, formerly Twitter.
This means Colt Emerson will get his first start at shortstop for the Mariners. In the pregame, Crawford was taking ground balls at third base, and Emerson was at short. The Mariners have spoken with Crawford about getting work at third, allowing Emerson to be in the lineup at shortstop.
The Mariners’ shortstop has not been hitting great this year. He is hitting just .210 with a .358 on-base percentage. He does have six home runs and 16 RBIs, though, while he has scored 23 times.
Meanwhile, Emerson made his MLB debut on Sunday. He went 0-2 with a walk in his debut, but did score a run. The next day, in the first game of the series with the White Sox, he got his first hit. Emerson hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning for his first MLB hit, home run, and RBIs. He has reached base safely three times in 11 plate appearances, but still has just one hit.
After the Mariners finish their series with the White Sox on Wednesday, they will hit the road, starting a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals on Friday.
