Jose Alvarado breaks silence after signing 3-year deal with Knicks

Jose Alvarado did not need many words to express how he felt about returning to the New York Knicks.

Shortly after ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Alvarado is declining his $4.5 million player option in favor of signing a new three-year deal worth more than $14 million to remain with New York, the veteran guard shared a brief message on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I’m Home 🧡💙🧡💙🧡

The post came after the Knicks secured one of their key rotational pieces following a championship season that ended with a five-game NBA Finals victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

A Brooklyn native, Alvarado arrived in New York at the Feb. 5 trade deadline after being acquired from the New Orleans Pelicans. He quickly carved out a role with his relentless defense, energy and ball pressure off the bench.

Across 28 regular-season games with the Knicks, including three starts, the 28-year-old averaged 6.6 points, 3.8 assists and 1.0 steal in 16.9 minutes per game. He shot 41.4% from the field and 33% from 3-point range while providing steady production for New York’s second unit.

Alvarado continued to make an impact throughout the postseason despite a reduced role. During the Knicks’ championship run, he averaged 4.2 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 43.3% from the field and 35.3% from beyond the arc across 18 playoff games.

Although his statistics were modest, Alvarado’s defensive intensity and ability to change the pace of games made him a valuable contributor, particularly during the NBA Finals against San Antonio.

With Jalen Brunson leading the starting backcourt, Alvarado gave the Knicks another dependable ball handler and perimeter defender off the bench, helping strengthen the team’s depth throughout its title run.

Now, after agreeing to remain in New York on a new three-year contract, Alvarado made it clear where he believes he belongs.

Home.
