Injunction ruling against NCAA gets pivotal update

NCAA football received a landmark ruling back on Friday that appealed to 2022 graduates. Talents like undrafted Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos now can play a fifth season, even after their pro tryout. However, there’s this pivotal curveball impacting the College Football Transfer Portal.

College football insider Pete Nakos dropped new revelations Sunday involving players who are seeking a college return.

“Any players who are exploring a return to college football will not be able to transfer unless they entered their name in January,” Nakos posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Even federal judge Charlotte Sweeney of Colorado, who oversaw and granted the injunction, clarified things.

“The Court’s order does not enjoin the operation of transfer rules,” Sweeney wrote in Sunday’s order. “As the plain language of the preliminary injunction order and this order make clear, the Court’s injunction concerns only the implementation of the Rule (as defined in the preliminary injunction order) and any Bylaw that prohibits Plaintiffs and Class Members from competing in a fifth season of collegiate athletics.”

This now puts undrafted players hoping for a college return in a new bind.

Such is the likely case for USC wide receiver Jay Fair. The slot wideout revealed his hope to earn another chance somewhere with a Saturday evening “get at me” message. But USC reloaded at wide receiver including landing a pair of four-stars in Kayden Dixon-Wyatt and Ethan “Boobie” Feaster.

“Not sure if there is a place for him with the Trojans but could definitely see him finding a home that needs help in the slot and producing,” USC 247Sports reporter Shotgun Spratling posted on X.
