Buccaneers promising young cornerback gets concerning injury update from Todd Bowles

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be looking to get back to their winning ways this season, and it starts with what they do in training camp, which will set the tone. The defense will be important to their success, but unfortunately, there is already uncertainty surrounding one of their cornerbacks, according to Greg Auman of FOX Sports.

“Todd Bowles said corner Benjamin Morrison’s lingering hamstring injury is not the same leg as the one sidelining him last year. Asked if that’s better or worse than if it were the same hamstring. ‘Remains to be seen,'” Auman wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Morrison played in 10 games last season, but the hamstring injury did hold him back toward the latter part of the season. There was a good chance that he’d see more playing time this season with a year under his belt, but the best thing the Buccaneers can do is not to force him back too quickly.

Hamstring injuries are always tricky, and you never know if you’re fully recovered until you get back in action. The hope is that Morrison can come back sooner rather than later, which could help his chances of getting fully healthy.

The Buccaneers have been the talk of the league over the past week, as the team and Baker Mayfield couldn’t come to an agreement on an extension before training camp.

Mayfield has let it be known that he isn’t the happiest about not getting a deal done, but he won’t let it distract him from how he performs this season. Both sides didn’t seem to be close on a deal, as Mayfield wanted to get close to $50 million per year. He also wanted a long-term contract, as the Buccaneers reportedly kept offering him short-term contracts.
