MLB rumors: Phillies among 3 teams interested in Luis Arraez trade

With the Philadelphia Phillies coming off a win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, the team is fast approaching Monday’s trade deadline amid a ton of speculation. As rumors will continue to swirl around the Phillies, there is more talk of a potential link to San Francisco Giants second baseman Luis Arraez.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Philadelphia is one of the teams, along with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers, that are interested in Arraez. Another team that Heyman mentions as ‘liking’ Arraez is the New York Yankees, though he questions the “positional fit.”

“Rays, Rangers, Phillies are among teams on Luis Arraez, who prefers to stay at 2B where he’s thrived this year in SF. Yanks like him, but positional fit might be an issue for them,” Heyman wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

A look at the Phillies’ potential target in Giants’ Luis Arraez 

As mentioned by Heyman, Arraez prefers to stay at second base, where he has seen improvement in the infield amidst a successful season with the Giants. Currently, Arraez has recorded a .328 batting average to go along with four home runs, 43 RBIs, and a .810 OPS.

There is no denying that whoever lands Arraez would land a hitting machine that can get on base, despite power not being his attribute. With the Phillies showing interest, Arraez would fill in at second base, which has usually been filled by Bryson Scott, with the backup being Edmundo Sosa.

At any rate, it remains to be seen if Philadelphia ends up acquiring Arraez and what it would end up taking to trade for him from the Giants, which goes for the same on the other teams that are showing interest in the 29-year-old. Either way, the Phillies are looking to bolster the roster as the team is currently at a 58-53 record, which puts them second in the AL East ahead of the series finale against the Orioles on Sunday afternoon.
