Sydney Taylor makes Sky history with game-winning shot to stun A’ja Wilson, Aces

The Chicago Sky got one of their biggest wins of the season on Saturday night. Chicago defeated Las Vegas 84-83 thanks to a heroic 3-pointer from rookie Sydney Taylor. That one play thrust the unheralded rookie into the history books and gave Sky fans hope for the future.

Taylor became the first rookie in franchise history to score a go-ahead 3-pointer in the final five seconds of a game or overtime, per ESPN’s Kareem Copeland.

Chicago gave Taylor two big opportunities to prove herself against Vegas. She attempted a floater with under 10 seconds left and the score tied at 81. A’ja Wilson and the Aces scored on the next possession, putting a ton of pressure on the Sky. Fortunately, Taylor nailed a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer that iced the game.

It was a huge shot for Taylor, who was not selected during the 2026 WNBA Draft. She joined Chicago on a training camp contract and eventually made the final roster.

Taylor seemed very much aware that Saturday’s big shot could be a defining moment in her career.

“It’s been a really long journey,” Taylor said, “and for me to step up and hit — that’s probably one of the biggest shots of my career in my life. So, I’m just grateful for that.”

Saturday’s game was not the only time that Taylor has showed up big as a rookie. Taylor put up 31 points against the Liberty in a crushing one-point loss. That matchup proved that Chicago can hang with some of the best teams in the W when Taylor is playing at a high level.

On the whole, Taylor is averaging 14.7 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game after 27 games played.

It will be exciting to see how long Taylor can keep this hot streak alive.
