Deebo Samuel breaks silence on return to 49ers with nostalgic mic drop

The San Francisco 49ers are an exciting watch at training camp. San Francisco is ready to fight their way back to the playoffs after suffering a crushing loss against Seattle last year. The 49ers are even more ready than ever now that Deebo Samuel is back where it all began.

Samuel finally broke his silence on what it is like to return to the 49ers during a recent interview.

“It kind of felt like I didn’t even go nowhere, to be honest,” Samuel said, per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. “When I got back, I was just like, ‘Well, I know what’s going on. I know the people here. Staff still the same.’ So it’s kind of like the same for real.”

The 49ers signed Samuel to a one-year contract on July 30th just days after Ricky Pearsall injured his knee at practice. Samuel’s signing was a clue that Pearsall would miss the rest of the season.

It took an injury for Samuel to finally return to San Francisco. But to Deebo, a reunion like this was bound to happen eventually.

“Conversations with me, John and Kyle have just always kind of been the same,” Samuel said. “It was just a matter of time before it happened.”

Now Samuel joins a wide receiver room with Mike Evans, Christian Kirk, and rookie De’Zhaun Stribling. It is easy to imagine he’ll take up his old gadget role on offense and perhaps even contribute as a returner.

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw explained that San Francisco’s defense can be more confident too knowing Deebo is back.

“He’s the juice of the offense,” Greenlaw said. “He’s the thing to keep that offense going when they need a spark. Just knowing that he’s going to be back on our side, it just gave you all the confidence in the world that we can get this done this year. I’m excited for him.”

It will be fascinating to watch how Deebo changes San Francisco’s offense throughout the rest of training camp.
