Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani-Tarik Skubal duo will make new MLB history after Tigers trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers recently shook up the baseball world when they traded for superstar pitcher Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers. The Dodgers have now added yet another elite player to what was already far and away the best roster in baseball as they look to win a third straight World Series this year.

Now, a new fact has been unearthed showing just how historically loaded this current Dodgers roster is.

“With Shohei Ohtani and Tarik Skubal, the Dodgers will be the first team to have a reigning back-to-back Cy Young winner and a reigning back-to-back (or b2b2b) MVP winner appear for them in the same season,” reported Sarah Langs of the MLB on X, formerly Twitter.

Ohtani has also been a terror for opposing hitters when on the mound, although that has been a rare occurrence this season due to a lingering knee issue. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have also dealt with other key injuries to pitchers, including Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Edwin Diaz, among others.

Still, that won’t earn them any sympathy points with the broader MLB fanbase, who took to social media to express their outrage on Saturday evening after the Skubal trade was announced. The Dodgers have already faced accusations of purchasing their 2024 and 2025 World Series championships as opposed to earning them through smart team-building, although any number of teams could have theoretically made an equivalent or better offer than what Los Angeles landed Skubal for.

In any case, the Dodgers now have yet another pitcher who would be most teams’ ace in their rotation, and will look to add a third straight trophy to their case when the MLB playoffs get underway in October.
