How Jets edge David Bailey’s top pick predecessor reacts to ‘great work’ at training camp

Entering year two of the Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey era, the New York Jets have nowhere to go but up. A 3-14 first season under the duo has already put both leaders on the hot seat. However, the 2026 NFL Draft may serve as their saving grace. A deep draft class, led by second overall pick David Bailey, could help lead the Jets back to respectability. As training camp progresses, Bailey has received some rave reviews. Offensive tackle Armand Membou, Bailey’s predecessor as a New York first-rounder, spoke highly of the rookie edge rusher to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler last week.

“[Bailey has] been giving me a lot of great work,” Membou stated to Fowler on August 6th. “His speed off the ball, and also how he can go from speed to power, it’s been a challenge going against him. It’s been back-and-forth. It was fun.”

While many draft experts had the Jets choosing between Bailey and Ohio State star Arvell Reese with their first pick, it became clearer that Bailey would be the choice as the draft drew near. In addition to the explosive former Texas Tech standout, Mougey made two other first-round selections: tight end Kenyon Sadiq out of Oregon with the 16th pick, followed by Indiana receiver Omar Cooper Jr. with the 30th selection.

In addition to Membou, Bailey, Sadiq, and Cooper Jr., Mougey and Glenn have brought several young pieces who could develop into standouts for the Jets. In the Sauce Gardner trade last season, Mougey also brought young receiver AD Mitchell back to MetLife, in addition to the picks acquired. 2025 second-rounder Mason Taylor had a solid rookie season, showing flashes as last year progressed. Multiple veterans have been added to the roster as well. Will the work Mougey and Glenn put in this offseason to improve the franchise take hold? Or will year two of their leadership lead to yet another lost season in East Rutherford, New Jersey?
