Jets’ Geno Smith ‘throwing s**t out of ball’ brings optimism after years of bad offense
The New York Jets are desperately searching for a winning season in 2026. It has been close to 20 years since New York made the NFL Playoffs.
This season, the Jets have a new quarterback leading the way. That is veteran Geno Smith, who is bringing new life to the offense in training camp.
“The Jets haven’t had a top-20 offense in over a decade, but people with the team are optimistic about how the passing game looks so far. Smith is a big part of that. I heard from more than one person on the ground that Smith is “throwing the s—” out of the ball,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote.
Smith has impressed his head coach during training camp. In camp, Smith has reportedly tossed touchdown after touchdown.
“Guys have confidence that when the routes are stretched down the field, that he’s going to let it rip,” Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said of Smith.
The Jets are looking for answers on offense. During the 2025 season, New York won just three games. The team is making expansive efforts to get more people involved in the passing game.
“Though Garrett Wilson is the clear-cut No. 1 WR and is cooking with quarterback Geno Smith in camp, Adonai Mitchell should not be overlooked. The Jets are looking for Mitchell to make a sizable jump. He seems to be moving past whatever was holding him back in 1½ seasons with the Colts. Mitchell has to prove it during the regular season, but he’s gaining chemistry with Smith and is in a contract year, adding urgency to his performance,” Fowler added.
New York starts preseason games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday.
