Broncos’ J.K. Dobbins practice sighting brings sigh of relief after training camp injury scare

The Denver Broncos got some bad news on Monday, as J.K. Dobbins was said to have sustained a soft-tissue injury that forced him to leave training camp early. Considering how injury-riddled his career has been, the concern level for Dobbins was legitimate. However, the organization received some good news on Tuesday.

Reports indicate that the 27-year-old running back returned to practice, according to Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette. Dobbins was spotted participating in individual drills in Tuesday’s practice.

“Broncos RB J.K. Dobbins, who left practice early yesterday with soft-tissue injury, going through individual drills,” Tomasson reported.

Injuries are nothing new for the soon-to-be six-year veteran. He’s only played in 47 of a possible 101 career games, dealing with a multitude of injuries throughout his career. J.K. Dobbins even missed seven games last season due to a severe left Lisfranc foot ligament injury. However, when healthy, Dobbins has shown he can be a reliable option in the backfield.

While injuries have limited Dobbins throughout his career, he is entering the 2026-27 campaign with 3,024 rushing yards and 25 rushing touchdowns in his career. Although he has never surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in a single season, Dobbins has managed to average 5.2 yards per rush attempt, which is higher than the NFL’s 4.4 average.

Considering J.K. Dobbins’ injury history, the Broncos are prepared for the worst-case scenario. Former second-round pick RJ Harvey is primed for the backup role and should receive some playing time whether Dobbins is healthy or not. Additionally, the front office used a fourth-round selection in this year’s draft on Jonah Coleman, who has flashed potential early on in training camp.
