Dolly Parton dies, country music icon was 80 years old

The iconic country music legend Dolly Parton has died — she was 80 years old at the time of her passing, which her family announced.

The announcement was made by her family on Instagram on Tuesday, Aug. 25. It was clearly emotional, as her nephew, Brin Seaver, shared the tragic news. He called it an “honor” to make the announcement. He had been the country music star’s head of security for years before her death.

“My name is Brin Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis, and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” he said. “This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality.

“As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now,” he continued.

Dolly Parton’s iconic career before her death

Before her tragic passing, Parton was a country music icon. From Dallas Cowboys halftime shows to hit albums, she did it all throughout her career.

She started performing at a young age, and she released her debut studio album, Hello, I’m Dolly, in 1967. Parton released countless albums throughout her career and won 10 Grammys out of 55 nominations.

Her last album, Rockstar, was released in 2023. The album consisted of various rock covers with collaborations with the likes of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Peter Frampton, Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Elton John, Miley Cyrus, John Fogerty, and more.

In addition to her music career, she acted in several projects. Parton starred in the likes of 9 to 5, Rhinestone, Straight Talk, Gnomeo & Juliet, and Joyful Noise.
