Braves’ Michael Harris II receives crucial injury update

While the Atlanta Braves still hold a 6.5 game lead in the NL East with their 46-27 record, they have lost their last three games. Outfielder Michael Harris II has been unable to help the Braves get back on track.

Harris was removed from Tuesday’s game and was out of the lineup on Wednesday. Officially diagnosed with lower back tightness, there is no timetable yet for the outfielder’s return, via Mark Bowman of MLB.com.

“Michael Harris II’s latest bout with lower back tightness could limit his availability over the next few days,” Bowman wrote. “Harris’ back felt better than expected when he returned to Truist Park for the resumption of a suspended game the Giants won, 7-2, on Wednesday afternoon. But the Braves center fielder wasn’t in Wednesday night’s lineup and it’s unclear when he may return to everyday action.”

There has been no word if this is the type of injury that will require a stint on the injured list. It isn’t something new for Harris, as he missed two games prior in the season due to back discomfort. But the fact his absence was only two games then could mean good news for Atlanta. Regardless, the Braves will be keeping a close eye on Harris and his back injury moving forward.

In the 68 games he has appeared in in 2026, Harris has hit .306 with 14 home runs, 41 RBIs and three stolen bases. Coming off of his first 20/20 season – and with three straight years of 15+ HRs/10+ SBs – the Braves know exactly what the outfielder brings to the table.

But the first order of business is simply getting him back on the diamond. Atlanta will hope a few days of rest will have Harris feeling ready to go. But right now his status remains murky.
