Falcons’ Bijan Robinson contract talks get ‘active’ update from insider

One storyline looming over the Atlanta Falcons as NFL training camp continues is the contract status of running back Bijan Robinson, who is eligible for an extension. Robinson has established himself as one of the top players at his position in the NFL over the last couple of seasons and is a huge part of the Falcons’ offensive attack.

Recently, Robinson has been holding out of training camp in hopes of landing a new deal, and now, NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport has weighed in with the latest details.

“Bijan Robinson, when he gets done, is going to reset the market and be the highest-paid running back in the NFL, as he should… the negotiations are active. The Falcons and Bijan Robinson… are working, trying to get a deal done. We’ll see if and when they are able to do it,” said Rapoport, per his account on X, formerly Twitter.

Robinson has been a key weapon for the Falcons both as a runner and a wide receiver during his short career there, frequently extending plays with his rare combination of elusivity and strength that has given nightmares to opposing defensive coordinators.

Unfortunately for Atlanta, this hasn’t translated to a whole lot of success on the field, as the Falcons are still embroiled in a nine-year playoff drought, having yet to host a postseason game in their Mercedes-Benz Stadium home.

Still, there’s no doubt that keeping Robinson around, even at a league-record price point, is integral for the Falcons moving forward, so it seems that things are on the right track to get a deal done sooner rather than later.

The Falcons will open up their season on September 13 vs the Pittsburgh Steelers.
