MLB rumors: How many teams seemed interested in Tarik Skubal before Dodgers trade?

Tarik Skubal was one of the top players on the trade market, and the Los Angeles Dodgers were the team that swooped him up in the end. It should be no surprise at this point, but the Dodgers always seem to be able to get the best talent at the most opportunistic moments, and they continue to lap the rest of the league.

Skubal had several other teams interested in him, and now they’ll be trying to trade for the other available pitchers, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman.

“There were 7 or 8 teams that seemed to be in on Skubal at least that we know about. Those teams can now move on and try for the other starters or two of the other starters, or whatever they want to do,” Heyman said on MLB Network.

There were two teams who had a lot of interest in Skubal, and it was the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees, according to the New York Post.

“The Brewers were viewed as the other team going hardest after Skubal,” the New York Post wrote. “They have arguably the best system in the majors and there was the dream of teaming Skubal with Jason Misiorowski atop the rotation. But it did not occur.

“If the Yankees were able to pull off a trade for Skubal, they would be improving what already is their strength — their starting pitching. The hope would be that maybe they could then more comfortably use another starter as a way to get much needed hitting.”

The Brewers and Yankees will have no choice but to pivot now, and they still have a day to figure out who else they can trade for to help their clubhouse. Though there are other options, they may not be at the level of Skubal and what he can bring to the table.
