Alabama football lands 2028 QB over Georgia, Virginia Tech
Head coach Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama football program have won a major recruiting battle, landing Charles Scott, a highly-ranked quarterback recruit in the Class of 2028. The 3-star recruit currently plays for Huegenot High School in Richmond, Virginia, and chose the Crimson Tide over several big-time SEC and ACC programs.
“BREAKING: Class of 2028 QB Charles Scott has Committed to Alabama, he tells me,” Hunter Fawcett reports for On3/Rivals. “The 6’5 235 QB chose the Crimson Tide over Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Maryland.”
With Ty Simpson entering the NFL, the Alabama quarterback situation is currently up in the air, and the QB room for the Crimson Tide is absolutely stacked.
This offseason, redshirt junior Austin Mack and redshirt freshman Keelon Russell are expected to compete for the job in 2026. Mack transferred to Alabama in 2024 and served as Simpson’s primary backup last season, while Russell was a 5-star 2025 recruit who was the No. 2 player in the country, only behind Bryce Underwood.
Kalen DeBoer also has true freshman Jett Thomalla on the roster. The Nebraska native was the No. 4 QB in the Class of 2026. Behind that trio is true freshman 3-star recruit Tayden-Evan Kaawa, sophomore John Gazzaniga, a 2025 transfer from Eastern Illinois, and junior John Cooper.
The Crimson Tide also has a commitment from the No. 1 QB in the Class of 2027, Elijah Haven, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
There is still a lot of time between now and when Charles Scott will step on campus in Tuscaloosa, and a lot can happen. When Scott does join the Alabama football program, though, it stands to reason that players like Thomalla, Haven, and even possibly Russell will still be there fighting for the job.
