Jazz Chisholm Jr. addresses injury scare after Yankees-White Sox game
New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr. suffered a lower-body injury late in Thursday’s 2-1 extra-innings loss to the Chicago White Sox. Hours after the conclusion of the contest, Chisholm revealed the diagnosis and his status moving forward.
The 28-year-old second baseman claimed that he experienced cramps in his legs while running to first base in the ninth inning, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post. Chisholm claimed he is completely fine and aims to play in Friday’s matchup against the Chicago Cubs.
“Jazz Chisholm Jr. was dealing with cramps in his right hamstring,” Joyce reported. “[The Yankees] do not think it is much. Jazz thinks he’ll be back in the lineup tomorrow.”
Reports indicate that Chisholm first started feeling the cramps in the eighth inning on Thursday, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. Now that he’s received treatment, Chisholm seems confident he’ll play in the Yankees’ next game.
“Jazz says he’s fine,” Kuty said on X. “Said it was a cramp, felt it in the 8th at some point. Got treatment, expects to play tomorrow.”
The injury originally looked substantially worse than it actually was. Chisholm was seen limping back to the dugout after being thrown out at first base. Although it didn’t look great when the injury initially happened, the seven-year veteran did immediately return to the field to play defense and wasn’t pulled out of the contest until the 11th inning.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. has played a key role in helping the Yankees remain firmly in the mix of the AL East. While his .223 batting average and .298 OBP are below his career averages, he’s still managed to record 81 hits, 16 home runs, and 45 RBIs while leading the American League with 30 stolen bases.
