Zohran Mamdani drops savage reaction after Knicks’ 76ers sweep
The New York Knicks overwhelmed the Philadelphia 76ers 144-114 in Game 4 to complete a historic 4-0 sweep in the Eastern Conference semifinals. New York, as a result, will play in their second straight Eastern Conference finals after a memorable offensive display that saw them record 25 three-pointers in a game that was effectively closed out before halftime.
And well, New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani undoubtedly enjoyed the Knicks’ display over the four games. Mamdani posted a series of four ‘brooms’ on X in response to a post by the Knicks’ official account.
Of course, he had previously predicted that New York will win the series in six games, with his team effectively exceeding expectations. The Knicks tied the playoff record for made threes in a quarter by knocking down 11 triples in the opening period alone while racing to a 43-24 lead.
By halftime, they had already buried 18 threes and scored 81 points, which nearly matched Philadelphia’s entire offensive output through three quarters. The Sixers simply had no defensive answers as all five of New York’s starters finished in double digits.
Starting again with OG Anunoby sidelined because of a hamstring strain, Miles McBride drilled seven three-pointers and finished with a game-high 25 points. Jalen Brunson added 22 points while making six threes himself, as the Knicks once again showed the depth that has transformed them into a legitimate title threat under Mike Brown.
Both Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart scored 17 points each as New York finished the series in historic manner. They have averaged a 19.4-point margin of victory through the first two playoff rounds, the best differential in the NBA’s 16-team playoff era since 1984.
In the sweep alone, the Knicks shot 54.5% from the field and nearly 45% from three-point range. Joel Embiid finished with 24 points while shooting a perfect 8-for-8 from the field and 6-for-7 from the foul line.
Tyrese Maxey scored 17 points but shot just 6-for-16 from the field, with Kelly Oubre Jr. the only other Philadelphia player to score in double digits, with a total of 10 points. New York’s lead had ballooned past 30 in the second quarter and eventually reached as high as 44 points.
They will now face either Detroit or Cleveland in the Eastern Conference Finals.
