Tyson Fury’s cousin, 20, rues ‘90% wrong’ professional debut after criticism

James Dean Fury was critical of his own performance as he laboured to victory on his professional debut.

The 20-year-old cousin of former two-time heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury, was turning over into the paid ranks.

He had signed with Ben Shalom’s BOXXER in his first promotional deal, and was looking to make a mark on his debut.

The young Fury took on seasoned but limited journeyman Dzmitry Atrokhau, looking to make his mark.

But the 20-year-old failed to go through the gears and show the best of his promised talent, on the undercard of Callum Simpson vs Troy Williamson 2.

Fury looked on paper to be of course far too good for his opponent, who hadn’t notched up his own victory as a professional since 2018.

He tried switching stances during the fight, but looked lacklustre and failed to let his hands go with anything of note.

He was in a lethargic and his corner weren’t impressed with every round that passed.

The third round was the crazy moment which saw him ship four unanswered blows in a big warning that he couldn’t be at all complacent.

After the scare which saw him nearly flattened, his corner were furious.

“Are your hands broken? Why can’t you put a hard punch together? He’s wide open,” Fury Sr barked in the corner.

“Catch his shots, open him up. I want to see some straight shots down the middle, do you understand.

“Listen, you could beat this fella with one arm, put your shots together and let’s see some quality punches.”

Fury was perhaps unfortunate to get the job done, with the journeyman often controlling exchanges.

It was a nightmare scare but the referee Mark Lyson spared his blushes with a wide 60-54 scorecard, which was in no way reflective of the action.

Fury reflects on his own downfalls

He said in a worrying assessment: “Me in the gym and at my best, no disrespect to him but he shouldn’t have touched me.

“What happened is I went out there, got hyped up and got carried away.

“I made a lot of mistakes, I’m confident I can tidy things up. There was a couple of things I did well.
