Why there’s no reason to worry about Steelers WR Michael Pittman Jr.’s injury scare

The Pittsburgh Steelers hope for a strong 2026 NFL season, and a return to the playoffs. At the team’s training camp this summer, there have been injuries to a few wide receivers. Michael Pittman Jr. is dealing with an injury scare.

The latest update though reveals that it isn’t too serious.

“Neither DK Metcalf nor Michael Pittman Jr. participated in the final team periods. A trainer appeared to look at Pittman’s leg, but both Pittman and Metcalf kept their helmets throughout the end of practice, which would seemingly signal they weren’t being held out because of injury,” ESPN reported.

Pittman is a new addition to the team this season. He spent the last several seasons playing with the Indianapolis Colts. During the 2025 campaign, the wideout posted 784 receiving yards.

In his NFL career, Pittman has 25 receiving touchdowns. He also has posted 485 receptions, and 5,254 receiving yards. He has two seasons with at least 1,000 yards receiving.

The Steelers have a new head coach heading into 2026. That is Mike McCarthy, who replaces Mike Tomlin. McCarthy is joining forces once again with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers decided to return to Pittsburgh for one last NFL season.

The Steelers added Pittman to help the wide receiver room. While DK Metcalf is seen as the primary target in the passing game, Pittman provides another reliable target for Rodgers.

Pittman is getting used to working with Rodgers, while practicing at training camp.

“We’re trying to get in as many reps as possible, so that’s why I kinda started out slow and you’re seeing it ramp up more and more,” Pittman said, per Sports Illustrated. “Looking to build on that, and just keep going I guess.”

Pittsburgh starts NFL preseason games on August 13, against the Green Bay Packers.
