Dave Roberts’ blunt response to Dodgers ending 7-game losing streak says it all
The Los Angeles Dodgers finally picked up a win on Saturday, to snap a brutal seven-game losing streak. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was not afraid to give his reaction to the win.
“Oh man, that was a tough one,’’ Roberts said, per USA Today. “It wasn’t pretty.’’
Los Angeles was able to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2-1, in 10 innings. The Dodgers were able to put some more separation between them and Arizona in the National League West standings.
Los Angeles has been struggling to score runs lately. That was still the case on Saturday, even though the defending World Series champions came out on top.
“Offensively, we’ve just got to get going,’’ Roberts said. “You know, it’s just hard to win games when you know your margin for winning is a razor’s edge. It’s not like guys aren’t trying, but it’s a tough way to pitch and have to be perfect.
“… We got to be better. To score one or two runs to win, it’s just a hard quality of life, you know? I understand hitting’s hard. But we got a lot of talent in there.’’
Despite the sluggish offense, the team’s pitching delivered on Saturday. Starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto had an outstanding appearance. He allowed no earned runs and just three hits over five-plus innings of work.
“That was the first game I saw this year where he had some real intensity,’’ Roberts said. “I think you saw that once they scored the run. Man on third base, nobody out, you saw the intensity pick up. The fastball got better. The slider got better. Talking to him after the game, that’s how we have to be from the first pitch.’’
The Dodgers are now 70-47 on the season. Los Angeles still has a commanding lead in the NL West. The team is in action again against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
