Bills suffer 2 key injuries at special practice at new Highmark Stadium

The Buffalo Bills have moved training camp from Rochester to Buffalo with a special practice at the team’s brand new Highmark Stadium. While the debut in the new digs was great for fans and players alike, it did not go well for a few Bills as two key contributors picked up injuries Saturday night.

“RB Ty Johnson went down during one-on-one drills with a right leg injury. He was helped off the field by athletic trainers and did not return to practice,” ESPN Bills beat reporter Alaina Getzenberg reported. “Starting center Connor McGovern also was injured on the first play of 11-on-11 drills. He returned to play, but then needed further attention from athletic trainers, who were looking at his right leg. McGovern then walked off the field and did not return.”

The Bills gave no further details on the extent of these training camp injuries, so we don’t know the severity of either issue.

Johnson is technically the team’s RB3, but also a key piece of the offense as he is one of the best 3rd-down backs in the league. McGovern is Buffalo’s starting center, who signed a $52 million contract this offseason after testing the free agent market.

Josh Allen and company will return to the new Highmark Stadium for two preseason games. They take on the Carolina Panthers at home on August 15 and the Pittsburgh Steelers on August 27. The team’s 2026 home opener at the new stadium takes place in Week 2, September 17, when Buffalo hosts the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football
