Yankees’ Carlos Rodón gives honest assessment of 1st rehab start after injury

Carlos Rodon is making significant progress towards his recovery as he looks to return to the New York Yankees’ rotation in the 2026 MLB season.

Rodon has been absent from the Yankees’ rotation over the last couple of months, dealing with an injury. It sidelined him for a good chunk of the summer before manager Aaron Boone delivered an update on his progress.

“Carlos Rodon has been on the injured list since June 30 with left elbow inflammation, but the Yankees starting pitcher is returning to the mound on Saturday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The left-hander will throw close to 50 pitches in what will be his first rehab start since the injury, manager Aaron Boone told reporters before New York’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves on Friday night,” reporter Robert Sanchez wrote.

He served on the mound for 2.2 innings, allowing three runs and three hits as it included a home run. Despite this, Rodon was content with how he felt after the outing.

“It was good to get back on the mound and compete,” Rodón said. The goal was to get out there and get 48 pitches in. So I’m happy with how I feel. Barring the results, I just feel good about how I came out of the game,” Rodon said after the game.

“The goal was just to get out there and get 48 pitches… happy with how I feel…Just looking forward to getting back on the mound whether it’s somewhere here or Double-A, maybe the big leagues, don’t know.”

How Yankees played against Braves

The Yankees will hope for great progress in Carlos Rodon’s recovery in the bullpen. In the meantime, they persevered to get past the Braves by a 5-4 score in a nailbiter throughout the middle contest.

New York improved to a 66-51 record on the season, sitting at second place in the AL East Division standings. They are above the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles while trailing the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Yankees will look forward to their series finale against the Braves. That contest commences on Aug. 9 as first pitch takes place at 1:35 p.m. ET.
