Arsenal vs Borussia Dortmund predictions

For the first time since 2004, Arsenal are going into the new Premier League season with a target on their backs.

The Gunners ended a 22-year wait without a title last term, finishing seven points clear of Manchester City at the summit of the standings.

It was not as comfortable a campaign as that margin suggests, but Arsenal were deserved champions. Now they are looking to successfully defend their crown.

It will not be easy, but Arsenal are the team to beat in England’s top flight. Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are under new management and in transition.

Manchester United impressed in the second half of last season, but they now need to balance domestic and continental competitions. Tottenham Hotspur have considerable ground to make up after back-to-back 17th-place finishes.

Arsenal have the strongest squad in the division and continuity in the coaching department. And the experience of finally getting over the line last season will serve them well going forward.

Some Arsenal fans are concerned that the team will make a slow start this season. Last year’s title triumph and run to the Champions League final took a lot out of the squad, and several Arsenal players reached the latter stages of the World Cup.

The likes of Declan Rice, William Saliba and Martin Odegaard have not yet featured this pre-season, and we might not see the best of that trio until later in the campaign.

Arsenal went down to a 2-1 defeat by Real Betis last time out, but that result will not worry Mikel Arteta.

Nevertheless, with the Community Shield on the horizon, the Arsenal boss will hope for a better outcome when Arsenal return to the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

Arsenal vs Borussia Dortmund betting tips

Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are ready to go head-to-head in the Emirates Cup.

Eventful encounter awaits

Borussia Dortmund are in effect a week behind Arsenal in pre-season.

They will contest the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Bayern Munich the day after the Gunners’ first Premier League game, before the Bundesliga gets under way the following weekend.

Dortmund will still be competitive here, though, and we like their chances of finding the back of the net after Arsenal conceded three times to Real Betis.

Attacks are likely to get the better of defences at both ends of the field on Sunday.

Fast start in London

Both Mikel Arteta and Niko Kovac will make alterations to their teams during this game, with several changes expected at the interval.

Some of the players that start this match will only be on the field for 45 minutes, so they will be keen to make an impact in the first half.

That, together with the attacking quality available to Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, points towards an entertaining match from the get-go.

All four goals in Arsenal’s loss to Real Betis came in the first half, so this bet represents excellent value.

Dortmund will have some joy

If this were a competitive game in the middle of the season, Borussia Dortmund would struggle.

Arsenal are one of the best teams in Europe right now, whereas BVB are a second-tier continental side.

Yet the German giants should have some joy at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal continue to get up to speed for the campaign ahead.

Whether it is the first or the second half, Dortmund can edge one set of 45 minutes in this one.
