Will Panthers’ Bryce Young play vs. Bills after sitting out Hall of Fame Game?

As the Carolina Panthers opened their preseason in the Hall of Fame Game, they opted to rest starting quarterback Bryce Young. But when they face the Buffalo Bills in their next matchup, Young will be on the field.

Head coach Dave Canales said he plans to play Young and other starters between 10-20 snaps against the Bills, via Joseph Person of the Athletic. Those numbers can change depending on how the offense looks. But overall, Young will be in charge of at least a drive or two to begin the matchup.

The Panthers want their starter getting live game reps and prepared for Week 1 as much as possible. But at the same time, the last thing Carolina wants is an injury. Young will get his chance to lead the offense, but his franchise will still remain cautious in the preseason.

As for the quarterback, he is exciting for that chance, no matter how long he ends up actually playing. Young is itching to be on the gridiron and eager to start his 2026 campaign off on the right foot.

“I’m excited just to be able to go out there with the guys. Any time you get to play football live in a stadium, it’s a privilege,” Young said. “Especially being able to go out there last week, you’re around it. Obviously I wasn’t playing, but you get that itch again.”

Young is entering a pivotal season after leading Carolina to playoffs as NFC South champions in 2025. The Panthers subsequently picked up his fifth-year option. A strong, and consistent season would have Young’s footing in Carolina much stronger. But if he continues to hit speed bumps, the Panthers will have more questions than answers.
