D’Angelo Russell jumps on Stephen Curry-to-Celtics bandwagon due to big Warriors problem

Just when many thought that the offseason could not get any crazier, rumors have spread that the Boston Celtics are angling for a trade with the Golden State Warriors to acquire Stephen Curry.

They only grew louder after Curry played golf with Jayson Tatum at Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, Massachusetts for former president Barack Obama’s 65th birthday celebration.

Pulling off a trade to get Curry is highly unlikely for the Celtics. But that did not stop D’Angelo Russell from wishing for it to come true, noting on his podcast that the two-time MVP has a better chance to win a fifth ring in Boston.

“I would love to see Stephen Curry go to Boston. Yeah, I would love to see that. I just think he needs that type of help around him now. Who’s taking the load off him in Golden State? The rookie? Healthy Jimmy (Butler)?” said Russell, who was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in July.

“I think you have a veteran team that’s going to know how to win the last three minutes of a game. They’re going to know how to win. Just getting to the last three minutes is where they’re going to struggle.”

With the Warriors’ lack of roster moves in the offseason, the 38-year-old Curry will continue to bear the brunt of carrying an aging and injury-prone core, which also includes Butler, Draymond Green, Kristaps Porzingis, and Al Horford.

While the Celtics did not exactly get younger with the additions of Paul George, Mike Conley Jr., and Mitchell Robinson, they bolstered their depth following the trade of Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Boston would have to give up a lot to acquire Curry. Golden State would likely ask for Payton Pritchard, Neemas Queta, and plenty of draft assets in return.
