John Cena’s ambassador post-WWE retirement contract comes with wrestling stipulation

While he is happily retired, don’t expect to ever see WWE legend John Cena wrestle again, as his post-retirement ambassador contract comes with an important stipulation.

Fightful reports that Cena is still under contract in an ambassador role. The door is open for him to return to the ring, but if he did, it wouldn’t be anywhere but in WWE.

That dashes any dreams of Cena making his way to AEW or any other professional wrestling promotions. Is this surprising? Cena has always been a WWE lifer. It would be shocking to see him in any other promotion after his 24-year career.

Cena has been enjoying his time after his in-ring retirement in December 2025. He lost to Gunther in his retirement match via submission, tapping out to end his career. He was recently the host of WrestleMania 42 and followed that up with an appearance at Backlash the next month.

Of course, at this point, Cena may be more known for his acting work than his professional wrestling career. This year alone, he will appear in three movies: Little Brother (which came out in June), Coyote vs. Acme, and Matchbox: The Movie.

Over the years, Cena has become one of the top actors in Hollywood. He started his acting career by starring in WWE-produced flicks like The Marine, 12 Rounds, and Legendary.

He would gain further notoriety with roles in comedies like Trainwreck, Sisters, and Daddy’s Home 2. Cena would lead the comedy Blockers, cementing his potential as a leading man. That same year, he starred in the Transformers spin-off movie, Bumblebee, with Hailee Steinfeld.

Since then, he has starred in Dolittle, F9, The Suicide Squad, Vacation Friends, The Bubble, Fast X, Barbie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Argylle, Ricky Stanicky, and Jackpot! Additionally, he has starred in two seasons of the James Gunn-created DC series, Peacemaker.
