Chiefs urged to avoid Bills’ mistake with new $3bn Arrowhead Stadium: ‘Don’t do this’

The Kansas City Chiefs are being warned not to follow a key Buffalo Bills stadium mistake.

Built just a stones-throw away from their old venue, the Buffalo Bills new state-of-the-art facility hosted its first team event over the weekend.

Their new home, New Highmark Stadium, welcomed more than 50,000 members of Bills Mafia on Saturday evening, where flaws with the construction were widely pointed out.

“Seats have a pane of glass blurring views, including at the 50-yard-line,” OutKick’s Ian Miller wrote.

“Some in the upper deck legitimately block most of the red zone on the far side of the field, specifically the end zone.

“Expensive seats, in the lower level about 30-40 rows up at the 12-13-yard line have their view of the other side of the field blocked by a standing platform.”

After one look at the Bills’ new home, it’s safe to say that they have been warned.

“This is bad, don’t do this @Chiefs,” Arrowhead Live, a prominent Chiefs fan account, shared on X.

“Oh if this happens in KC there will be a riot,” one fan responded.

The Bills’ new $2.1bn home was built by architectural firm Populous, alongside the help of a franchise legend.

Chiefs brass and Populous were in talks over $800 million worth of renovations to the iconic Arrowhead, but the deal ultimately fell through.

City council members rejected a tax-increase bill that would’ve provided nearly $1 billion in funds to build a roof on the stadium.

Instead, the franchise announced its plans to move out of their stadium in Missouri, and relocate across state lines into Kansas.

The NFL franchise plan to build a $3bn state-of-the-art domed stadium in Wyandotte County, a venue which would allow them to host events year-round.

The four-time Super Bowl champions expect the move to be completed by 2031 – when their lease at Arrowhead expires.

Kansas-based architectural firm MANICA and HNTB won the design competition against Populous to be the lead architect.

MANICA have designed the Tennessee Titans‘ new Nissan Stadium in Nashville, and the Las Vegas Raiders Allegiant Stadium.

Fans were not less than thrilled with the first renderings of the stadium, which appears to adopt Arrowhead’s best features, but with a roof.

Kansas City has a rare opportunity to learn from Buffalo’s early missteps before breaking ground in Wyandotte County.
