Why Seahawks is right to have chip on their shoulder after Super Bowl win

With the Seattle Seahawks winning the Super Bowl this past season in a dominant 29-13 win over the New England Patriots, the team is looking to repeat as champions, even if the conversation hasn’t been focused on them. As Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold and the rest of the team look to reach even new heights in the upcoming campaign, this analyst feels they have a chip on their shoulder.

While it might sound ridiculous for a Super Bowl champion to have a chip on their shoulder, as ESPN’s Kevin Clark would agree, he would go into why it fits for them, as people are already focusing on other teams winning it all. He would even go as far as to say that Seattle’s Super Bowl-winning team is “on the short list for most disrespected Super Bowl champions” of his lifetime.

“Normally, I would laugh at a ‘Nobody believes in us, I have a chip on my shoulder’ gimmick from a Super Bowl champion,” Clark said. “In this case, it is incredibly valid. The Seahawks are on the short list for most disrespected Super Bowl champions of my lifetime. I think the Eli [Manning]-Giants are on that list twice. I think that the Von Miller, Peyton Manning Broncos are on that list, but it feels like the day after the Super Bowl. We started a new conversation about everybody but the Seahawks.”

At any rate, one could see how the Seahawks could have even more motivation going into this upcoming season to excel once again and repeat as champions under head coach Mike Macdonald. Of course, it remains to be seen as Seattle opens up Week 1 on Sept. 9 in a Super Bowl rematch against the Patriots.
