Panthers rumors: Haynes King could have ‘Taysom Hill role’ in Carolina after preseason breakout

As Carolina Panthers quarterback Haynes King displayed his heroics during the 33-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame preseason game, fans are wondering what his role for the team will look like. Though King deals with an injury with the Panthers, this NFL insider would tease his usage for the team.

While Bryce Young is the starting quarterback for Carolina, it doesn’t mean King can’t play, as due to his rushing ability that was on display in the Hall of Fame game, Adam Schefter said on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he could be in a “Taysom Hill role.”

“Haynes King is somebody that I think is going to have a role there in Carolina this season. He’s going to make the team, and it wouldn’t shock me if they wound up using him like in a Taysom Hill role there in that same division,” Schefter said.

In the preseason opener for the Panthers, King threw for 180 yards and two touchdown passes, to go along with 39 yards and a score on the ground. In fact, the rushing touchdown he got was the game-winning score as time expired, which is also the play on which the 25-year-old sustained a hamstring injury, as head coach Dave Canales revealed on Sunday.

“From what I understood, it was on that last play where he kind of like lunged in and dove for the goal line and really gave everything he had,” Canales said, according to Mike Kaye. “He got his hamstring there, and we’ll just keep evaluating him on a weekly basis…We’ll reevaluate him on the following week to see.”

It remains to be seen what King’s role with Carolina looks like this season as Week 1 is on Sept. 13 against the Chicago Bears.
