What Wings’ Paige Bueckers has learned from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Brunson’s games
After the Dallas Wings’ win over the New York Liberty on Sunday, 91-76, there is no denying that the team features a top talent like Paige Bueckers, who continues to get better by the game. As Bueckers continues to lead the Wings to further success, he would shout out some NBA players she models her game after.
Speaking on Wednesday, she would be asked by Myah Taylor about watching the current NBA Playoffs, which consist of the New York Knicks coming out of the East and the Oklahoma City Thunder leading the San Antonio Spurs 3-2 in the West Finals.
Bueckers would speak about the “level of physicality” in the playoffs, and the aspects of back-to-back MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s game that she models after.
“Just the level of physicality, obviously the playoffs, there’s a rise in that, and so obviously watching the OKC and Spurs series, like it’s been really, really physical, and teams have made it tough,” Bueckers said. “And I mean, I take a lot from Shai’s games, just being able to get your spot consistently, and Steph [Stephon Castle], he’s my guy, so he’s done a good job defensively, but they’re really guarding him with five. I just really enjoy watching basketball, just sort of see the level of competition. I mean, Wemby’s an alien, he’s unreal.”
Paige Bueckers said she watches a lot of basketball. The Dallas Wings star has been tuned into the NBA playoffs. “I take a lot from Shai’s game,” she said, adding that she’s also learned a lot from watching Jalen Brunson’s footwork. pic.twitter.com/pfXPWlXbGr

Wings’ Paige Bueckers is also being inspired by Jalen Brunson
Another player that the Wings guard in Bueckers would mention besides Gilgeous-Alexander in terms of inspiration for her playstyle is Knicks star Jalen Brunson. She would specifically mention Brunson’s footwork and overcoming not being the most athletic to achieve success as parts she’s modeling after.
“And for me in watching Jalen Brunson and his footwork, I think I’ve learned a lot from that, his ability to like not be the tallest, most athletic person on the floor, but his consistency in getting to his spot, getting to the rim, getting to the free throw line, and being aggressive that way,” Bueckers said.
Bueckers is averaging 19.3 points, five assists, and three rebounds per game while shooting 52.2 percent from the field in seven contests.
