Sean McVay reveals Rams’ plan for Ty Simpson, Stetson Bennett amid heated QB2 battle

The Los Angeles Rams were the biggest winners of the offseason. After trading for Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie, the team should now have one of the best defenses in the entire league. Of course, Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, and Davante Adams help form one of the best offenses in the league, too.

Stafford is fresh off an MVP win, and Nacua and Adams’ status as the best receiver duo in the NFL is safe. Clearly, the team is all in on winning the Super Bowl now. However, if they made one move that surprised fans, it was their first-round selection of Ty Simpson. The Rams needed a quarterback of the future, but drafting Stafford’s backup during a window of contention was a questionable decision to many.

Even so, the team has high hopes for the signal caller from Alabama. On top of the former MVP and the recent first-rounder, the Rams also really like what they have in Stetson Bennett, a former fourth-round pick who won two national titles in college.

This stacked quarterback room means that the Rams will roster three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. Stu Jackson reported that Sean McVay confirmed as much. Stafford’s job as the starter is obviously safe, but Bennett and Simpson have been competing for the right to back him up.

The Rams will play their Week 1 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia, and it is unclear as of now which reserve will be QB2. Los Angeles’ final preseason game of the year is against the Los Angeles Chargers on Aug. 27, so perhaps the quarterback competition will be solved then.
