Celtic out of Champions League as they blow 4-0 aggregate lead in ‘one of the worst results in club’s history’

Celtic’s Champions League aspirations have been dashed in the most humiliating of fashions.

The Hoops lost their Champions League play-off tie to LASK 5-4 on aggregate after the Austrian outfit won the second leg 5-1.

To make matters worse for Celtic, they scored the opening goal in Tuesday’s encounter, meaning they boasted a four-goal lead on aggregate.

Yet that was still not enough of a cushion as LASK levelled the contest in normal time before Samuel Adeniran scored the all-important fifth goal on the night in extra time.

Upon hearing LASK had taken the lead on aggregate, talkSPORT’s Sports Bar co-hosts Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara could not believe what had unfolded in Austria.

“What are Celtic doing? Disaster,” O’Hara said when LASK’s decisive goal went in.

“What are they doing? How can you lose a game when you’re winning 4-0? That’ll cost them a fortune… one of the worst results in Celtic’s history,” O’Hara added at full time.

“This is one of the biggest disasters in Celtic’s history,” Sports Bar co-host Jason Cundy added.

Having lost in the Champions League play-offs, Celtic will now compete in this season’s Europa League.
