Texas Tech predicted to land Thomas Castellanos in transfer portal

Thomas Castellanos, who was the starting quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles last season, announced he plans to enter the transfer portal. With the new campaign about to begin, one college football insider shares his prediction of where he thinks Castellanos may sign.

Pete Nakos of On3 Sports believes the Texas Tech Red Raiders will be the program to sign Castellanos. While Will Hammond is set to start at quarterback for the Red Raiders this coming season, the team may be on the verge of adding another signal-caller to the roster.

Castellanos played his freshman year at UCF in 2022, stepping in for five games. He then transferred to Boston College, where he immediately played as a starter. The 22-year-old quarterback hit the transfer portal again and stepped in as the starter for the Florida State Seminoles last season.

While he’s flashed potential as a dual-threat quarterback, the 2025-26 campaign was nothing to gloat about. Castellanos finished the year with 2,760 passing yards, 557 rushing yards, and 24 total touchdowns (15 passing, 9 rushing) while completing 58.3% of his pass attempts. He also threw nine interceptions, but did lead the ACC passing yards per attempt with 8.9.

As of now, Thomas Castellanos is not with a football program. He was recently granted a fifth year of eligibility after winning a legal temporary injunction. Whether it’s Texas Tech or another school in the nation that signs him, Castellanos will be available to play in the 2026-27 campaign. Assuming he is given the starting job.
