Red Sox’s Isiah Kiner-Falefa provides update on injury return timeline

Boston Red Sox infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa is recovering from a forearm injury. While it seems as if Kiner-Falefa could return soon, fans likely won’t see him in the big leagues again until September.

“Isiah Kiner-Falefa says he plans to be in Worcester for at least a few more days and that he is comfortable being added back when rosters expand on September 1,” Chris Cotillo reported Tuesday.

Kiner-Falefa is currently in his first season with Boston. The veteran infielder was hitting .277/.344/.361 across 47 games played before landing on the injured list. He was making an impact and the 31-year-old will give the Red Sox a boost once he makes his return from injury.

Not only is Kiner-Falefa a respectable right-handed hitter, he offers crucial defensive versatility. Kinfer-Falefa is capable of playing shortstop, second base or third base. Having a player like that on the roster down the stretch and in the postseason will only help this Red Sox ball club.

Boston is currently in third place in the American League East standings. The ball club trails the first place Tampa Bay Rays by six games. At the moment, the Red Sox hold the second AL Wild Card spot. They are only a few games behind the New York Yankees for the top Wild Card spot as well.

In other words, Boston is in a quality position to reach the playoffs as a Wild Card team at the very least. Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s return from injury will only help matters.
