Watch Marshawn Lynch get shooting tips from Gabby Williams, Kayla Thornton

The Golden State Valkyries held practice on Wednesday ahead of their upcoming Thursday game against the Indiana Fever, and they had a special guest on hand. Former NFL player and Bay Area native Marshawn Lynch made an appearance during Valkyries’ practice where he was treated to some hoops tips from Gabby Williams and Kayla Thornton.

Despite Marshawn Lynch being heard on camera saying his shoulders don’t work the way Gabby Williams’ shoulders do, undoubtedly because of all the hits he took during his NFL career, he still knocked down his first shot attempt as part of Valkyries practice.

As far as the team is concerned, they have begun the 2026 WNBA season at 4-2 and are looking to put together a mini-win streak as the Fever come to town. Only in their second season of existence, the Valkyries shocked many during their inaugural year, finishing with a winning record at 23-21 and making the playoffs.

Thornton was a huge part of the Valkyries’ success last year, making her first ever All-Star appearance before suffering a season-ending injury right after the All-Star break. In her return to the court this year, she’s averaging 9.7 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 38.9 percent from the field, 32 percent from the 3-point line and 88.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Williams was the team’s major offseason acquisition, signing as a free agent after playing the last four seasons with the Seattle Storm. She’s appeared in all six of the Valkyries’ games to date at a little over 24 minutes per game. She’s been averaging a career-high 13.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals with splits of 39.7 percent shooting from the field, 44.1 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 75 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
