Braves get big Robert Suarez injury update during Dodgers series

The Atlanta Braves (76-55) cannot simply look ahead to October, as they are still trying to hold off the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East and jump the Los Angeles Dodgers for a first-round bye, but they need a healthy pitching staff more than anything. Injuries seriously hindered the club during its last postseason trip in 2024, so management will likely do everything possible to preserve its most important arms for the final stretch of the year. Robert Suarez is certainly included in that group.

The right-handed reliever has not pitched in more than two months due to elbow inflammation, but he is slowly making his way back to the mound. Suarez is now throwing from 100 feet and building up his arm strength, positioning him to begin bullpen sessions soon, per Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game. If he advances past that step, manager Walt Weiss says a rehab assignment will be the next and final checkpoint to clear.

Braves fans have been patient, for they understand how valuable Suarez can be at full strength. The two-time All-Star, who racked up 76 saves combined in the previous two years with the San Diego Padres, owns a sensational 0.56 ERA in 32 innings pitched for Atlanta in 2026.

Dylan Lee, Didier Fuentes and Dylan Dodd have boosted the Braves’ bullpen toward the top of MLB, and Raisel Iglesias remains reliable overall despite a recent skid. Robert Suarez is the X-factor, however.

Atlanta signed the Venezuelan hurler to a $45 million contract for that very reason. He intends to pay the franchise back for that generous investment in the near future.
