Paige Bueckers joins Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Plum in WNBA history amid historic season

Paige Bueckers made history during the Dallas Wings matchup against the Portland Fire on Tuesday. Early in the third quarter, she hit a transition 3-pointer to get her 16 points on the night, which ultimately resulted in her joining the Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark and the Phoenix Mercury’s Kelsey Plum as the sole players in WNBA history to reach 750+ points and 200+ assists in a single season.

Bueckers’ new historic milestone adds a crescendo to her already impressive season. The Dallas Wings guard has played 36 games this season and is averaging 20.6 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 50.6% from the floor and 39.6% from three. Her elevated level of play has allowed the Dallas Wings to stay in playoff contention at 22 and 16. Bueckers’ new historic milestone adds a crescendo to her already impressive season.

Bueckers has shown immense focus during her team’s playoff push, which she highlighted in comments after Sunday evening’s game against the Seattle Storm. In post-game remarks, she talked about how the team has approached games this season.

“Honestly, we want to have the same approach every single game, and play every game like it’s a playoff game and play every game like it’s the most important one ahead of us. So, obviously that’s the next one on the schedule. But we can’t play like we’re trying to make the playoffs.

She added, “We’ve got to play to our identity and to what we want to build on and to what we’ve been this entire season. Obviously, the stakes are higher, but once you focus on that, you kind of lose sight of where you are in the present.”
