Aaron Judge’s latest step toward injury return will catch fans’ attention

The New York Yankees are seeing day-by-day progress with Aaron Judge. As the playoff race continues to heat up, every little bit of progress helps.

On Tuesday, manager Aaron Boone provided an update on Judge that will include a perplexing maneuver, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Essentially, Judge will likely transition to right field, but it is not certain whether he would be the DH.

“I’m not saying there won’t be a DH day in there, but my plan is to have him play in the field,” Boone said.

Additionally, Boone has noted that Judge has been progressing after throwing balls from 100 feet in right field at Yankee Stadium. He was also seen running in the outfield.

“He looks good,” Boone said. “He’s been shagging [fly balls] just to kind of get the body used to being out there in the field and stuff, so he’s doing pretty well”.

Judge has been nursing a fractured rib since April 26. Since then, Judge has missed at least 85 games since his last appearance on May 31.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are leading the American League Wild Card standings at 74-59. The Boston Red Sox are coming from behind at 72-59.

As for Judge, he is looking to transition into live batting practice. From there, he could experience a minor league rehab assignment.

“He’s got a calendar of what they’re doing, but you make adjustments to that as you go,” Boone said. “They’re definitely mapping things out, but as you go, you check some boxes and move on. Sometimes that progress speeds up a little bit. Sometimes you take a step back.”

Judge is batting .248 with 53 hits, 17 home runs, and 38 RBIs.
