Rick Pitino, St. John’s land ex-Auburn star in transfer portal after Heat stint

After acquiring Reed Bailey last week, St. John’s coach Rick Pitino will have another weapon at his disposal next season after landing a talented forward who spent time with the Miami Heat in the NBA Summer League in July.

He is the latest addition to the growing list of athletes returning to college after having professional experience.

On Tuesday, One3.com’s Joe Tipton reported that Keyshawn Hall has committed to St. John’s via the transfer portal. He played for Auburn last year, averaging 19.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 36 games.

After not getting picked in this year’s NBA Draft, the Heat signed Hall to an Exhibit 10 contract. He logged 3.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 16.1 minutes in five games in the NBA Summer League.

Tipton noted that the 23-year-old Hall, despite his short stint with the Heat, was recently granted a fifth year of eligibility after a court in Ohio granted him an injunction. His move to St. John’s, however, is on hold, as of this writing.

“The NCAA has since been granted a motion to stay the injunction, temporarily pausing the court’s decision. Therefore, Hall is currently ineligible, but he and his attorney are working through legal options in hopes of allowing him to play for the Johnnies this upcoming season,” wrote Tipton.

If the court rules in his favor, the Red Storm will be his fifth team in college. Hall also had one-year stops at UNLV, George Mason, and UCF.

Tipton added that Hall also drew interest from Kentucky, USC, Houston, SMU, and Gonzaga, among others.
