Dodgers’ Dave Roberts eases fans’ minds after Shohei Ohtani jog ‘looked a little funny’

Shohei Ohtani remains the most influential driving force behind the Los Angeles Dodgers’ winning ways, and having him healthy as they look to win their third consecutive World Series title. Thus, every little niggle or every little limp becomes all the more magnified.

In the seventh inning of the Dodgers’ 4-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves, fans noticed that Ohtani’s gait was a bit odd, with some thinking that his knee was bothering him as he jogged on the way back to the dugout.

Nonetheless, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts mentioned that there’s no reason to be concerned over Ohtani’s knee even though his jog back to the dugout “looked a little funny”, as per Adrian Medina of Roundtable Sports.

What should ease the minds of Dodgers fans even further is that Ohtani was able to leg out a triple in the ninth inning after his deep fly ball to left field wasn’t fielded cleanly by Lane Thomas. Legging out a triple is difficult enough as it is, and it is especially more so when running on a bum knee.

Ohtani complained of knee troubles earlier this year, which has forced the Dodgers to keep him out of the mound for the time being. He has been dealing with some discomfort in his left knee, and that is the leg he plants in front of him when throwing to the plate. That takes so much repetitive force and strain, and LA is erring on the side of caution in this regard.

But it looks like that knee isn’t bothering him enough to the point where he can no longer suit up as a designated hitter for the Dodgers. In fact, Ohtani could be back on the mound as soon as the Dodgers’ Sunday contest against the Detroit Tigers, according to Roberts himself.
