Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards says quiet part out loud about Jaden McDaniels’ fouls
The Minnesota Timberwolves have their backs against the wall once again.
After tying the series against the San Antonio Spurs with a win in Game 4, Anthony Edwards and company found themselves just a loss away from a trip to Cancun following a 126-97 loss to San Antonio in Game 5 on Tuesday at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
Despite the unenviable predicament the Timberwolves are in, Edwards said that his team remains confident it can get the job done.
“I don’t see anyone in our locker room that’s too worried,” Edwards told reporters during the postgame press conference, via Anthony Slater of ESPN.
Edwards also noted a key factor in the loss to San Antonio that concerns Jaden McDaniels’ foul management.
“Everything starts with Jaden McDaniels, trying to keep him out of foul trouble,” the former Georgia Bulldogs star shared.
McDaniels scored 17 points on 6-for-13 shooting with six rebounds, two assists and a steal, but he also got called for five fouls. As one of the most important Timberwolves players in the series, McDaniels needs to avoid getting into foul trouble, which complicates Minnesota’s rotation.
At the same time, Edwards conceded that there is only so much the Timberwolves can do when defending someone like Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama.
“Some of the stuff Wemby was doing you don’t have an answer for,” said Edwards.
Edwards finished Game 5 with 20 points on 6-for-13 shooting from the field with two rebounds and two assists, while turning the ball over four times.
It was not a great night for Edwards and the Timberwolves, but they have a chance to level the series and force a Game 7, when they host the Spurs in Game 6 at Target Center in Minnesota on Friday.
