Djed Spence edges closer to Tottenham exit with top club aiming for £25m deal

Inter Milan have reopened talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the signing of Djed Spence, talkSPORT understands.

The Italian champions are willing to spend up to £30million on the England international this summer.

Spence is open to a move away from Spurs before the transfer window closes.

Having been offered to several clubs, Inter have now returned to the table to discuss a potential deal.

Cristian Chivu’s side want to pay between €30m (£25m) and €35m (£30m) for the 26-year-old.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ asking price at the start of the window was set at €50m (£42.7m).

Inter’s renewed interest comes after talkSPORT revealed Liverpool were not working on a deal to sign Spence despite recent reports.

Spence future

Spurs are open to offers for the versatile full-back as they look to fund their summer spending spree.

Roberto De Zerbi has already spent over £200m ahead of the new season, with the club’s transfer record broken twice.

Spence also finds himself behind Pedro Porro in the pecking order at right-back despite his World Cup heroics.

He featured in all seven of England’s matches in North America, including four starts, as they finished third.

Due to those commitments, Spence did not return to Spurs for pre-season ahead of their tour of New Zealand and Australia.

The defender was also not involved in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Getafe on Saturday, with his side concluding their summer schedule at home to Hoffenheim this weekend.

Having signed a new deal last summer, Spence currently has three years remaining on his Spurs contract.

Where would Spence play for Inter?

Inter’s interest comes with the club facing a potential crisis at wing-back going into their title defence.

Although Chivu prefers to deploy a 3-5-2 formation, he is currently without a recognised senior right-sided defender.

Spence is capable of playing both as a full-back and wing-back on both sides of the pitch.

Whilst he has only briefly appeared at wing-back for Spurs, he has featured in the role previously for Genoa, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough.

His time at Genoa is Spence’s only prior experience of Italian football.

He spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign with the club, making 16 Serie A appearances.
