Chargers’ Mike McDaniel, not Madison Beer, is ‘best thing to happen’ to Justin Herbert, says host

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has had an offseason to remember. Aside from entering his seventh year in the NFL and seeing the Chargers hire Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator, Herbert got engaged to singer Madison Beer.

Herbert has quickly formed a bond with McDaniel, whom the Chargers scooped up after getting fired by the Miami Dolphins in January. McDaniel is known for his unconventional approach, and he could further open up Herbert’s game.

Last season, the 28-year-old signal-caller threw for 3,727 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He improved his rushing, tallying career-highs of 83 attempts and 498 yards.

For FOX Sports 1’s Danny Parkins, Herbert should log even higher numbers under McDaniel’s dynamic system.

“The one thing that Justin Herbert cannot say in his vows to Madison Beer is, ‘You’re the best thing that ever happened to me,’ because that’s going to be Mike McDaniel,” claimed Parkins.

“McDaniel is going to unlock the simplicity, the ease for Justin Herbert. He’s not going to have to do everything. He’s got a play-caller, a left tackle, and a right tackle all in one offseason. He’s going to be great.”

Parkins also stated that Herbert, a two-time Pro Bowler, is an “MVP talent.”

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh has touted the pairing of McDaniel and Herbert, calling it a “great fit.” Harbaugh has described Herbert as “meticulous” and “really smart,” while also praising McDaniel for his energy, mindset, and vision.

McDaniel will have plenty of talent to work with, especially with Los Angeles adding Charlie Kolar, Alec Ingold, and Tyler Biadasz, surrounding McDaniel with more key pieces.

Herbert and Beer got engaged in July. They have not yet announced a wedding date.
