Fortuin named South Africa captain for Namibia white-ball tour

Bjorn Fortuin has been named captain of South Africa's squad for the white-ball tour to Namibia. The squad will compete in a T20I tri-series involving Namibia and Zimbabwe from August 28 to September 6, 2026, at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek. South Africa will also play its first-ever 50-over series against Namibia from September 9 to 13, 2026.

Head coach Shukri Conrad explained why the same squad was selected for the T20Is and ODIs. He asserted that the squad had covered all bases, so there was no need to have different line-ups for the two assignments. He also spoke about exciting talents like Connor Esterhuizen, Nqobani Mokoena, and Duan Jansen.

"We've selected one squad for both series as we feel we have all departments well covered and it provides a great opportunity for players to build on their international caps. We saw glimpses of what Connor and Nqobani can offer during the T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year. It was unfortunate that Jordan picked up an injury in the opening match of that series, so we're looking forward to seeing him get another opportunity at this level," Conrad told Cricket South Africa.

"This tour has also opened the door for players who have performed domestically. Duan is one of those players. He is a quality all-rounder who has also shown great character for the Titans," he added.

Conrad expressed his excitement about the prospect of facing neighbouring countries, especially Namibia, and backed Fortuin to do a good job as the leader of the side.

"Bjorn is an experienced player and proven leader who has successfully captained the Lions, and we have every confidence in his ability to lead this group," Conrad said.

"It is always exciting to play against our neighbouring countries, and the first-ever ODI series between South Africa and Namibia adds further significance, especially as we build towards next year's World Cup," he added.

New faces in South Africa's squad for Namibia

Duan Jansen earned his maiden national call-up to the squad. The 26-year-old all-rounder was named the Division 1 One Day Cup Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season after scoring an unbeaten 61 in the Titans' 50-over final victory against DP World Lions.

Connor Esterhuizen, Jordan Hermann, and Nqobani Mokoena received their first ODI call-ups. Eathan Bosch earned his maiden T20I selection. The squad also includes nationally-contracted players Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi and Kwena Maphaka.

The South African contingent is scheduled to depart OR Tambo International Airport on August 25, 2026, ahead of the tour.

South Africa A squads announced for Bangladesh series

Marques Ackerman will captain South Africa A in both the four-day and one-day series against Bangladesh A. The four-day series runs from August 23 to September 2, 2026, while the one-day series takes place from September 6 to 12, 2026.

Seamer Matthew Boast and batter Gavin Kaplan are new faces across both squads. The four-day squad includes uncapped players Tshepo Ntuli, Meeka-eel Prince and Delano Potgieter. The one-day squad features uncapped players Matthew de Villiers, Imraan Manack, and Kyle Simmons, a spinner from Western Province.

Senuran Muthusamy was included in the four-day squad following his recovery from a left knee ligament injury. The four-day squad convened at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria on August 18, 2026, before the series began at Tuks Oval on August 23, 2026.
