Victor Wembanyama loses crown as NBA’s tallest player after team signs new giant

There’s a new giant in town, and he’s stolen the bragging rights from Victor Wembanyama.

San Antonio’s superstar might be an ‘Alien’ on the court, and the cover star of NBA 2K27, but he’s no longer the tallest player in the league.

That crown now belongs to Jamarion Sharp, who has been signed by the Los Angeles Clippers to a two-way contract.

Standing at 7-foot-5, Sharp is now the tallest active player in the NBA.

The center moves ahead of Wemby, listed at 7-foot-4, and Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey, listed at 7-foot-3.

Who is Jamarion Sharp, the NBA’s new tallest player?

Sharp went undrafted in 2024 after putting up modest numbers in college.

He played two seasons at John A. Logan, a junior college in Carterville, Illinois, where he was listed as a 7-foot-2 Freshman.

While teaming with former NBA star Jay Scrubb, they led the Volunteers to a 28-5 record and finished undefeated in conference play for the first time in school history.

Sharp was rated a four-star prospect and the top JUCO recruit in the nation ahead of the 2021-22 season, and received offers from Arizona, Cincinnati and Oregon, before he committed to Western Kentucky.

He played two years with the Hilltoppers, before transferring to Ole Miss for his final season.

Sharp finished his collegiate career with an average of 6.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. He was also credited with 354 blocks in 95 games.

After he wasn’t selected in the 2024 NBA Draft, the 7-foot-5 center signed with the Texas Legends, a Dallas Mavericks affiliate of the G League.

Sharp played 29 games in the 2024-25 season, and averaged 6.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game.

He upped his production in Year 2, with an average of 8.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.4 blocks.

The prospect also shot 77 percent from the field, and his performances earned him the G League’s Defensive Player of the Year award.

He’s now set to get a shot with Los Angeles, and will likely feature heavily for the San Diego Clippers too.

Sharp’s offensive game remains a work in progress, but his size and shot-blocking ability make him an intriguing defensive presence in the NBA, and a player worth watching in the preseason.

Los Angeles also signed Yuki Kawamura to an Exhibit 10 contract on the same day they signed Sharp.

The fan favorite point guard, who has had previous stints with the Grizzlies and Chicago Bulls, stands at 5-foot-9 himself.

With Sharp and Kawamura, the Clippers have both the tallest active player and shortest active player in the NBA on their roster.
