Derek Carr reveals Dave Roberts’ touching gesture to his family

Derek Carr dropped by the Los Angeles Dodgers versus Kansas City Royals game Monday. Carr even took in the game as the newest hire for UCLA football. Yet Carr revealed manager Dave Roberts delivered a kind gesture to his family.

Clad in a Dodgers hat, Carr took his wife and family to Chavez Ravine underneath near 90 degree temperatures. Carr’s wife Heather recently delivered a newborn child. Roberts clearly saw Carr’s children and wife having difficulty with the on-field temperature.

Carr shouted out Roberts on the social media website X, formerly Twitter, for this next move. 

“Shoutout to Dave Roberts. We are at a Dodgers game and he noticed my wife holding our newborn and kids in the heat during batting practice,” Carr began. “And [he] invited us into his office to cool off for 30 minutes.”

Not many MLB skippers pull off that kind of gesture. But the three-time World Series winner opened the door for Carr’s family in this situation.

“A genuinely kind person. Thanks Dave. Go Dodgers,” Carr said. 

Carr is a self-proclaimed Dodgers fan. His hometown of Bakersfield is known to have a huge Dodgers following as part of Southern California.

So Carr and his family took in Dodgers-Royals on his first night as an official UCLA employee. He’ll soon assist new Bruins head coach Bob Chesney in helping with game-planning strategies while also giving pointers to the quarterbacks, including Nico Iamaleava. UCLA rises as the first non-playing football job for Carr in his retirement life from the league.
