Dream’s Rhyne Howard breaks Diana Taurasi’s record in win vs. Tempo

Six players scored in double digits for the Atlanta Dream as they beat the Toronto Tempo, 107-95, at Gateway Center on Monday.

The Dream bounced back from their loss to the Washington Mystics, 79-74, on Friday. They improved to 20-12, including 12-5 at home. The Tempo, meanwhile, absorbed their ninth straight loss, spiraling to 10-22.

Rhyne Howard led the way for Atlanta with a team-high 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting from long distance. She added four rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and one block in a masterful performance. It was also a record-setting evening for the 26-year-old guard.

“With her 100th three-pointer of the season, Rhyne Howard becomes the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 100 threes in a season, doing so in just 31 games,” announced the Dream on X.

“Howard breaks the previous record of 33 games, shared by Diana Taurasi and Howard herself, and remains the only player in Atlanta Dream history to make 100 three-pointers in a season.”

Howard has remained prolific in her fifth year with the Dream, averaging 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and a league-leading 2.4 steals. She is shooting a career-best 37.1% from three-point territory. She was named to Team USA for the FIBA Women’s World Cup.

She struggled with her outside shot last season, but she remained resolute and trusted her game. Now, she has surpassed Taurasi, who is widely considered the greatest player in league history.

Howard had plenty of support against the Tempo. Angel Reese had 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Jordin Canada added 20 points, six rebounds, and nine assists. Allisha Gray, Naz Hillmon, and Brionna Jones scored in twin digits as well.

The Dream will return to action on Thursday against the Connecticut Sun.
