Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards knows what’s coming in Victor Wembanyama’s Game 5 return
The Minnesota Timberwolves have made it to two consecutive Western Conference Finals for a reason. They have been maturing beyond their years, and they showed their improved mettle once more on Sunday, when they took a 114-109 win in Game 4 of their semifinal clash against the San Antonio Spurs to even up the series at 2-2.
Victor Wembanyama’s ejection did help matters for the Timberwolves, as they dominated the Spurs in the paint in crunch time in a way that they wouldn’t have had Wembanyama been there to protect the rim. But this Timberwolves team has shown in the past that it can sometimes lose focus against inferior teams, and Wembanyama’s absence could have led to a loss in focus. Instead, they locked it when it mattered the most.
Just to show even further how far the Timberwolves have come, maturity-wise, they are not getting ahead of themselves whatsoever, as they know that Game 5 will be tough especially with the Spurs set to get Wembanyama back.
“Now it’s just taking it one game at a time, try to figure out how to get a win. That’s the only thing that’s on my mind right now. They’re going to have Wemby back, he’s going to come in with a lot of energy so just watch some film together and try to figure it out,” Anthony Edwards said on his postgame presser, via Wemby Alien Era on X (formerly Twitter).

Indeed, Wembanyama has been a huge problem for a Timberwolves team that loves to play inside-out. The Timberwolves scored five layups and one dunk in crunch time of Game 5 after the Spurs had to go small with Wemby out, and that may not be something that materializes for Minnesota for next game.
Be that as it may, the Timberwolves have also shown that they can rise to the occasion in the playoffs, and a game on the road against the Wemby-led Spurs is not the kind of adversity this team hasn’t seen yet over the past few seasons.
